What Is a Sewer Diversion?

A sewer diversion (also termed sewer deviation or alteration) involves rerouting an existing sewer main or branch to a different line path. It is necessary when the present sewer alignment conflicts with new development footprints, building envelopes, or other civil works. In short, it moves or reconfigures sewer infrastructure to allow your project to proceed without encroaching on critical assets.

Sewer diversions are often used where you cannot build over the existing line (or inside the zone of influence), and the sewer must be shifted to accommodate foundations, new structures, roads or other civil works.
